Classrooms

The Classroom projects of Feed the Hungry, Inc. (FtH) provide additional classrooms in public schools with critical shortages. In 2003, FtH partnered with the CGMA (Classroom Galing sa Mamamayang Pilipino Abroad) that was launched by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to build new classrooms on proposed sites, with the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) vetting such proposals. Confirmation of sites is principally based on student population and current classroom conditions in the area.

The construction of classrooms under the CGMA program was generally contracted to the Federation of Filipino Chinese Chamber of Commerce Inc. (FFCCCI), Peoples Reform Initiative for Social Mobilization (PRISM) for pre-school, and Engr. Myla Adriano, a private contractor.

FtH has provided assistance for the construction of the 92 classroom buildings, including nutrition and youth hope centers, complete with student desks, teacher table and chair, and upgraded toilet facilities. The FtH classroom-sponsored projects account for PhP24.08 million of the total FtH donations.

Form January 1 to October 15, 2011, donations for classroom projects reached PhP2,072,264.36 which funded two (2) newly completed classroom buildings and two (2) rehabilitation projects. These classroom buildings were constructed by private contractors.

Site visit of Judy Ann Carpio with Tugbok ES

December 20, 2012

My sister (Judy Ann) visited Tugbok ES yesterday (Tuesday) and was informed that the schoolhouse is expected to be completed December 28. This is what my sister said about her observations and the gist of her conversation with the principal:

“The contractor, Engr. Maly, chose a good place for the schoolhouse, near the kindergarten classes and mid-way between the Sped classes and regular classrooms. This donated schoolbuilding will have one room for kindergarten classes (morning and afternoon). There are 3 kindergarten sections, two have classrooms already but the third one is temporarily using a ‘bodega’! This is the section that will transfer to the new building. The second room of the school building or ‘Little Red Schoolhouse’ will be a Science Room for pupils in both the Special Education Program and the regular or mainstream program. God bless FtH for their generosity and efficiency. Principal Amy C could not help but compare the single classroom given by some legislators (Party List) that cost P650,000.00 with no window jalousies, no ceiling, no restroom, no chairs, and I think no paint too. Still unfinished now.

I also got to meet the foreman, a Bicolano from Manila. The contractor sent over five workers who have built the schoolhouses in other provinces. Four workers are locally recruited. I plan to give them some ham and other foods on the 24th. ”

Regards,
Denis Carpio

December 17, 2012

To our dear friends and FtH supporters,

On behalf of the Feed the Hungry Executive Director, Chairperson, Board of Directors, I am attaching two documents:

1. An appeal to you to please consider the cry for help of those in New Bataan/Compostela Valley/Cagayan de Oro (again), hit by Typhoon Pablo (International name: Bopha) on December 4, 2012. Typhoon Pablo is considered the worst typhoon (more so than Typhoon Sendong) that hit the Philippines this year.

So many lives were lost. Those who survived were left without homes and all their belongings were wiped out. There is so much misery all over—here, we are blessed, safe in our own homes. But, we just cannot ignore the plight of our kababayans. Thus, we are knocking on your compassionate and kind hearts to ask you to please help them.

FtH is ready to render emergency assistance in partnership with Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) and in coordination with National Disaster Risk Reduction & Management Council (NDRRMC) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

2. FtH’s Typhoon Sendong Progress Report so that you know how your donations for the Typhoon Sendong victims and their families were spent—that every cent you donated through Feed the Hungry, Inc. benefitted the intended victims.

Sendong Progress Report - December 2012

Kindly take note of the picture of the just-completed two classrooms— complete with student desks, teacher’s table and chair, upgraded boys and girls comfort rooms with flushing toilets—that will benefit 100 school children every year in Indahag, Cagayan de Oro. The later classrooms that are being built through FtH are supplied with electric fans. FtH is looking into the school water supply system and is also trying to provide them with books.

As always, thank you for your kind support.
